National Certification

ALLIANCE OF CANADIAN BUILDING OFFICIALS' ASSOCIATION (ACBOA):
  • Is the NATIONAL Voice of Canadian Building Officials
  • Deals with Issues of NATIONAL interest to Building Officials
  • Is controlled by affiliated Provincial Associations
  • Is the NATIONAL Certification Body for Building Officials
  • Determines which individuals meet the requirements of National Certification
  • Awards National Certification to the individuals who do meet the requirements
  • THE NATIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM WAS CREATED
    TO GIVE CANADIAN BUILDING OFFICIALS:
  • More Credibility
  • More Respect
  • More Recognition
  • Improved Mobility
  • NATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
  • Was developed over several years by the Construction Sector Council and Building Officials from across Canada
  • Is based on the National Occupational Standard for Canadian Building Officials
  • Requires a combination of training and practical experience
  • Can be achieved in one or more of three specialties
    • Housing
    • Part 9
    • Part 3
  • Has two stages for each specialty - Associate and Certified
    • The Associate Stage is achieved through training and the successful completion of exams
    • The Certified Stage is achieved through practical experience
  • Requires membership in good standing in an ACBOA affiliated Provincial Association. This Includes ongoing compliance with the Provincial Association's Code of Conduct and provincial maintenance programs.
